In 2010, the Special Olympics New York – Long Island Region held a major fund raising event at Bar Beach
in the Town of North Hempstead. This Annual Polar Plunge was organized to raise funds in support of the
Special Olympic athletes.
The "Polar Plunge" is a Law Enforcement Torch Run event which takes place around the world and is
actively supported by the Fraternal Order of Police. This year Nassau County Lodge 25 was proud to
be a sponsor of the event.
We had many volunteers, including Lodge Member Joe Branzetti, jumped into the icy waters of
Hempstead Harbor in an effort to raise money for the organization which provides for Special Olympic
athletes and their families to participate in sporting events with NO COST to them.
Many Thank's to all of you who donated to this truly worthwhile cause and special thanks to Joe Branzetti
for volunteering.
